VThe distribution process in SuperSport’s Let’s Play a Million campaign, in conjunction with Unicef, is well underway with thousands of soccer balls dispersed to needy children across the 9 provinces.
The Let’s Play a Million project forms part of the Let’s Play initiative and aims to raise a million soccer balls by 2010. The idea behind Let’s Play a Million is to enable children all over the country to play soccer and to get the whole country excited about 2010.
SuperSport in partnership with UNICEF and the Department of Education among others got the public involved by asking them to donate towards procuring the soccer balls. “We raised R3.87 million or 155 000 soccer balls so far and so we are now on our way to our target ” said Let’s Play’s Vaughn Bishop. “The balls and the complementary coaching programmes in place are making a significant difference to the lives of many kids.” The first shipment of these balls which totals 28 000 units out of 100 000 arrived at Durban harbor last year.
The logistics of the project has been handled by Access in partnership with Supaswift (Pty) Ltd who will be assisting in the distribution of the balls throughout the country. A further shipment of 55 000 balls as part of the 2nd phase of this project arrived at Access at the back end of last year and now with great anticipation Access is happy to announce the arrival of a further 17 600 at Durban harbor on the 6th March 2010. Access will be hosted a small event yesterday, Tuesday 16th March, to distribute some of the balls to under privileged children who are from Alipore Primary School. Both SuperSport and Fedex representatives were here in attendance along with Neil Tovey and a few Amazulu FC soccer stars. What a fantastic day it was with our Access Community here in Durban getting involved.
A BIG thank you to all of you who helped to make this day such a great success!
